12 Benefits of Linga Mudra

Linga Mudra is a mudra that involves the hand gesture and produces heat element or fire element in the body. The shape or posture of Linga Mudra is just like the shape phallus, a male genital organ. Therefore it is called Linga Mudra.

It is also a symbol of masculinity; this mudra helps the body to increase temperature and energy. It helps in keeping your body warm and energetic even when the atmospheric temperature is low. Linga Mudra, a word derived from Sanskrit words, linga means symbol, or form or represents the phallus; in Hindu mythology, linga represents a symbol of lord shiva, the three eyes-god. It is illustrated as the third eye of lord shiva has a fire element, so that lord shiva symbolizes fire. Mudra means to seal or gesture, and linga mudra is called a gesture of fire.

Steps of doing Linga Mudra

  1. Sit in the yoga-like padmasana or sukhasana, and make yourself comfortable.
  2. Close your eyes and control your breathing by focusing. 
  3. Breath in and out a number of times. Now, place your hands on your lap.
  4. Clasp both of your hands, interlock fingers of your hands in such a way that your right hand’s little finger comes in the lower side end and left hand’s thumb to come on the upper end.
  5. Keep your knuckles outward-facing direction, erect your thumb of the right hand, and make a circle with your thumb and index finger of your left hand.
  6. Remove all thoughts and things from your mind and chant mantra OM for better focus and concentration.
  7. Keep on breathing in the same pose and with sane frequency.
  8. Remove your ornaments or bracelets or watch if you are wearing while practicing Linga Mudra.
  9. Do it in a light and peaceful place.

You can practice this mudra for five minutes or more while you do meditation or hold the hand position for the entire duration of meditation. And when you get tired, gently release the mudra and rest the mudra in your lap with the thumb still pointing in an upward direction.
