Mountain pose is the another name of Tadasana , which is divided into two Sanskrit words tada which means mountain and pose, which means posture or seat. Mountain pose is the basic pose for doing all standing poses. Avoid doing Mountain pose or Tadasana if one has a headache, insomnia, and low blood pressure. Always practice each asana under complete supervision of yoga guru. Yoga is the perfect way to go on an inner journey of the Self, and this journey starts with the support of three important aspects-Asanas, Pranayama, and Meditation. Asana, being the first step, plays a major role in maintaining the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of a person.
Steps of doing Mountain pose or Tadasana
- Stand with the base of your big toes touching, heels slightly apart and lift by spreading your toes, and the balls of your feet then lay them softly down on the floor.
- Firm your thigh muscles and lift the knee caps, without hardening your lower belly. Lift the ankles to strengthen the inner arches, then imagine a line of energy all the way up along your inner thighs to your groins, and from there through the core of your torso, neck and head.
- Turn the upper thighs slightly inwards, lengthen your tailbone towards the floor and lift the pubis towards the navel.
- Press the shoulders blades into your back, then widen them across and release them down your back. Lift the top of your sternum straight toward the ceilings. Widen your collarbones. Hang your arms beside the torso.
- Balance the crown of your head, with the underside of your chin, parallel to the floor, throat soft and the tongue wide and flat on the floor of your mouth. Soften your eyes.
- Mountain pose is the basic asana which is the starting pose of all standing asana. Stay in the pose for 30 seconds and then for one minute.
