Wrinkles can be an unsightly indicator of advanced age, lower your confidence and self-esteem, and may also be suggestive of the fact that your skin may need a little love. There is always botox and other cosmetic methods, but in the long run, investing in your health and letting that reflect on your skin is the natural and more effective way to go. Here are some yoga and pranayama exercises that can help you keep those wrinkles off your face –
Facial Yoga Series- Developed in Japan, this yoga series targets the face directly and aims to stimulate the muscles, increase blood circulation, and reduce the fat content. Regular and prolonged practice of the exercises is believed not only to reduce wrinkles but also promote a clear, healthy complexion and more defined facial features.
Sarvaganasana – Like other inversion exercises, Sarvangasana or the shoulder stand helps in circulating the blood in the upper regions of the body, and thus stimulates the muscles of the face. Indeed, the anti-ageing potential of this asana has been mentioned even in ancient yogic texts. However, Sarvangasana is a slightly challenging asana, so do it with caution and supervision.
Simhasana – Also known as the lion’s pose, this asana helps reduce tension from the face and chest, stimulates the throat muscles and maintains their tightness, and thus helps in protecting the face against the ravages of stress and age. Integrate this asana into your daily yoga routine and see the results yourself.
Kapalbhati Pranayama – A natural and efficient way to keep the face young, kapalbhati helps in internal cleansing and detoxing, both of toxins and negativity, and promotes oxygen supply, circulation of blood, and healthy lungs, all of which translates to a youthful-looking, healthy skin.
Meditation – Once you are done with all your practices and stretches, it is important to let the body come back to normal with some mediation. Meditation also helps in reducing stress, frustration, and anxiety, all of which can translate onto your face in the form of wrinkles. Thus, mediation can act as a session-end cleanser.
While these exercises will certainly help you keep the wrinkles off your face, they will not be enough if you negate their effect with poor lifestyle choices. So, alongside these exercises, also invest in a healthy diet, sunscreen, and stress-free living because, at the end of the day, a healthy mind and body promote healthy, young-looking skin. As you change your lifestyle, these exercises will boost your effects, and help you keep a clock off your face.
